KINESIOLOGY

Traditionally KINESIOLOGY (pronounced kin-easy-ology) refers to the study of muscles and movement in the body and is widely used in this context by physical educators, coaches, physiotherapists and fitness specialists. Now, through worldwide use for over thirty years, a new meaning has evolved for the word, which is to describe a natural health system used by therapists based on manual muscle testing.

One of the hardest tasks for kinesiologists over the years has been to find an answer to the question, ‘What is kinesiology?’ This is not surprising as kinesiology is very much a ‘hands on’ therapy and it is far more tangible for the person to feel for themselves what a muscle test is, experience the difference when a change happens, learn how their body is responding to the daily stresses and strains, than it is to provide a string of words to impart the same information. Nevertheless, I will offer a few desriptions that may answer the question for you:

Kinesiology is a system, which links traditional (Chinese) Oriental ideas of energy flow found in acupuncture and acupressure with western style muscle testing. The idea is to bring about balance within the body by removing toxins, relieving energy blockages, reducing tension and enhancing the body’s natural healing ability.

The synthesis of techniques involves skills from modern chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy and ancient Chinese acupuncture.

Kinesiology literally means the study of body movement, it is an holistic approach to balancing the movement and interactions of a person’s energy systems. Gentle assessment of muscle response monitors [those areas] where blocks and imbalances are impairing physical, emotional or energetic well-being. The same method can identify factors, which may be contributing to such imbalances. The body’s natural healing responses are stimulated by attention to reflex and acupressure points and by use of specific body movements and nutritional support. These can lead to increased physical and mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Kinesiolgy evolved from the innovative and inquiring mind of an American chiropractor, George Goodheart DC. In 1964 Goodheart started to use muscle testing to evaluate the effectiveness of his treatments. He would test a series of muscles before and after a treatment, which gave him valuable feedback on how effective a treatment was for the condition he was treating. This led him to look further into muscle spasm and eventually led him to realising the importance of treating the weak muscles and not the tight ones, as it is because there are weak muscles that we get the opposite group getting tight. This was revolutionary thinking and unfortunately still seems to be when one looks at the techniques used by Physiotherapists and chiropractors, etc.

Kinesiology involves assessment techniques and treatment techniques, and involves all systems of the body, using the muscles as indicators of imbalance. It can be used in the treatment of sports injuries, general painful conditions, disease, emotional imbalance, energy imbalance, and even food intolerance testing. It is a non-invasive, safe technique and can even be taught to patients to use on their families and friends. It can also be used to treat babies, or physically disabled people by using a surrogate test, which involves testing another person’s muscles while that person touches the patient. This is a natural transfer of energy/information from one body to the next through direct current flow in our soft tissues. It has the added bonus of being able to test imbalance even without obvious symptoms, such as pain or injury, making a great tool for preventing disease or injury.

This practice utilises this technique extensively and the results are far beyond what can be achieved through conventional means. So give it a try, you will be amazed.

SMOKING TREATMENT

This is an holistic approach to quitting smoking. There are a lot of various offers out there to get you to stop smoking, including chewing nicotine gum, using nicotine patches, hypnotherapy, etc. However, none of these will be successful if your body does not want to give up, even though your brain says it does. In kinesiology we call this a ‘reversal’ or a ‘switch’. This basically means that your body has been forced to adapt to something that is unnatural, and it has thus decided to ‘switch’ its attitude and has been forced to accept it as being normal. This causes loads of chemical changes in your body, switching off of some normal productions of chemical processes, and causing your body to do things it is not meant to do. So now when you want to give up your body sees it as abnormal and rejects the notion by giving you withdrawal symptoms. This is why conventional techniques to stop smoking will not be successful, because the body will reject them as being harmful input. Unless this ‘reversal’ is corrected, you will always battle to give up.

My approach utilises kinesiology to assess whether there is a ‘reversal’ or not (99% are reversed) and then to proceed holistically using acupuncture or Laser (low power), homeopathic tinctures (Nux Vomica), and nutritional advice. This gives the body the opportunity to get through the 2 weeks ‘crave’ phase which will occur and allows detoxification and restoration.

With giving up smoking, associated habits need to be assessed as well. These will have to be altered so the entire response of the body to the ‘need’ for a cigarette changes.

The success rate for this type of approach is 80%.

ALLERGY TESTING

Also known as ‘Food intolerance testing’, or ‘Ecology test’.

This again utilises the techniques used in Kinesiology, as we can access information from the body via the muscles. Our bodies are very sensitive to changes in vibration and other energies, and it can register frequencies that modern machinery cannot and at much smaller levels of intensity. Very much like a dog whistle is audible to a dog but not to a human. Every food we eat or every chemical we are exposed to is analysed by our body and checked for compatibility. That is if it is something that the body does not like it will set up ways of either avoiding it or eliminating it. By using the muscles as the indicator of this assessment, we can tell whether the body is sensitive or not to a specific substance.

The body assesses substances according to their vibrating frequencies, and if any substance is not in harmony with the body’s own frequencies, then it will damage the body’s energy fields, and by testing the muscles we will find a weakening of the muscles, indicating sensitivity to that substance. You are not physically exposed to any substance when tested as all are contained in sealed test tubes. Your body can sense the frequencies through glass, and therefore all you need do is hold the test tube near your body and your body can register the frequencies. In a surrogate test, the test tube is placed on the baby or tucked into the clothes and the surrogate is tested while touching the baby. Simple and effective, but extremely accurate.

This type of testing can help eliminate foods/chemicals that may be affecting your health and damaging your immune system, or may help you lose weight by removing those foods you are sensitive to that may be causing you to accumulate fat. Either way it helps to restore better body function through better nutrition.
